Annecy is certainly a turquoise lake, majestic mountains and endless outdoor activities... But it is also a town in Haute-Savoie, and mountains sometimes mean rain! So it's best to anticipate this eventuality, even in summer, and prepare a small list of ideas so as not to feel disoriented. We'll help you think about it.
Light rain...
Do you like to go for a walk at all costs and wear your favourite rain gear? Then take a walk through the streets of the Old Town to the Pâquier, cross the Pont des Amours and wander through the Jardins de l'Europe. You can take the opportunity to visit the local museums such as the Château d'Annecy, the Old Prisons, the Palais de l'Île and the Museum of Animated Film, or the nearby churches (Saint Maurice, Saint François de Salles, Notre Dame de Liesse, Cathédrale Saint Pierre or Basilique de la Visitation). If you are ready to go further, the castle of Montrottier, the castle of Menthon Saint Bernard or the Gorges du Fier are accessible in less than 30 minutes from Annecy.
... Or a rain shower
Here, you have to take refuge inside! Several solutions: Annecy has 2 cinemas (4 Nemours and Pathé / Décavision), the library at the Bonlieu Centre is a treasure trove, and the arcades of the old town allow you to go shopping sheltered from the water drops. You can also find comfort in one of the many typical Haute-Savoie restaurants, treat yourself to a hot drink in a cosy tea room or take time for yourself with a massage/wellness treatment, for example, or an aquatic moment in one of the two indoor swimming pools of the agglomeration. Finally, if you don't mind a one-hour trip, we highly recommend exploring the magnificent village of Yvoire on the shores of Lake Geneva, or the town of Aix-les-Bains, a spa town on Lake Bourget, with its aquarium.
